Lorna Harris, PhD

I’m an ecosystem scientist focusing mainly on the ecology, hydrology, and biogeochemistry of peatlands and other wetlands. For over 20 years I have worked in both the UK and Canada to improve our scientific understanding of peatlands and other wetlands and used this knowledge to inform and promote their protection, restoration, and stewardship.

I have worked on wetland science and policy issues in government, academic research, and a conservation NGO setting. I created Peatland Futures to connect cutting-edge peatland science with practical policies and tools for climate, biodiversity, and community resilience. I translate scientific results for use in policy research and analyses, to find and apply evidence-based solutions for landscape-scale peatland management and stewardship.

I work across Canada and internationally. I am a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) in the UK and working towards an equivalent professional qualification in Canada.
